Frequently Asked Questions

    • What are the True North Awards?

The True North Awards are Canada’s premier recognition program for excellence in the hospitality, multifamily, and adjacent design, development, and supply industries. Hosted by NEWH Canada, the awards celebrate designers, manufacturers, suppliers, and collaborators who elevate the built environment through outstanding products, projects, and partnerships.

    • Who is eligible to be nominated?

Eligibility varies by category, but generally, nominees must be actively contributing to the Canadian hospitality and/or multifamily sectors. This includes manufacturers, design firms, reps, contractors, and collaborative teams working on eligible projects. Full eligibility criteria are outlined on the https://truenorthawards.ca/2026/categories-and-criteria page.

    • How do nominations work?

Nominations are submitted through our online platform, hosted by SurveyMonkey. Industry members are encouraged to nominate peers, partners, or their own teams across applicable categories. The 2026 nomination window will run from January to March. Nominations are fully anonymous and reviewed by a non-biased judging panel composed of NEWH International Past Presidents, who qualify eligible submissions as finalists. Finalists will be announced in March 2026.

    • Is there a cost to nominate or vote?

No. There is no cost to submit a nomination or cast a vote. The program is designed to be inclusive and accessible to all corners of Canada’s design, hospitality, and adjacent communities.

    • How are winners selected?

Winners are determined solely through peer voting, conducted via SurveyMonkey. Each IP address may submit one voting session—the first and most complete session is counted. Winners are revealed live at the awards gala.

    • What are the award categories?

Award categories span product design (such as flooring, lighting, and furniture), project excellence (hospitality and multifamily), service and vendor recognition, and special honours including Collaboration of the Year, The Solutionist Award, The Guiding Light Award, and the Legacy Award. Categories are reviewed annually to reflect evolving trends in the industry.
