2025 Hospitality Project of the Year Winners
1st Place: Cineplex (The Rec Room)

In the heart of downtown Vancouver, The Rec Room Granville stands as a vibrant example of adaptive reuse done right. Designed by mackaywong in partnership with Cineplex Entertainment, this multi-level entertainment venue transforms an underutilized site into a cultural and social destination—revitalizing Granville Street’s entertainment district with fresh energy and purpose. At its core is The Palms, a lower-level concept inspired by Vancouver’s history and west coast surf culture—blending handcrafted details, warm textures, and lush greenery to evoke a modern-day escape. From flexible event zones and high-octane gaming floors to relaxed dining lounges, every space is designed for movement, spontaneity, and connection. More than a venue, The Rec Room Granville is a catalyst for urban renewal—proving that thoughtful design can reimagine forgotten spaces into meaningful landmarks that reflect both the city’s past and its future.
